In politics, you run for office on promises (you may or may not intend to keep) and you only need more votes than your competitor to win.
To lead a movement, all you need to do is motivate people to choose to follow you.
I will let you all in on a little secret: to lead a social movement…
- you do NOT need to be ordained by anyone else
- you do NOT need to have done it before
- there is NO panel that needs to approve you
- there is NO secret school for community organizers
- it does NOT matter what the majority of people think
* And a little bit of bonus information:
- there is NOT much of any pay either but huge intrinsic rewards
To be elected to something, you generally need just over 50% of the votes to win. To be a leader of a movement, you do not need a majority opinion; you really only need one vote or follower. To this point, you should not even care what the majority thinks as most of the time you are challenging the status quo and will likely never have majority opinion on your side. Remember, it does not take a majority to prevail ... but rather an irate, tireless minority, keen to set brushfires of freedom in the minds of men.
There are vacuums of leadership that exist right now begging for someone to fill them. Leaders are motivated to step into those vacuums and create motion. This is the good news, because you get to choose your movement. There is no one hiring you, and you do not need to run for the office. With so many options available, so few good leaders willing to fill those options, so many people are wanting – no begging – for someone to follow, and with a plentiful environment of communication and resources, you can essentially choose your movement. Simply providing the vision, passion, and means for others to communicate and follow, like-minded thirsty people will join your mini-movement. What you will most likely find is people are easily led where they wanted to go all along.
